Category Archives: Sandy
Sandy has already made her presence known down in parts of Tennessee and the Carolinas. All sorts of watches/advisories/warnings are in effect. They currently range from high wind warnings and advisories across the northeast US, down into Ohio and Indiana. Also, blizzard warnings have been issued for parts of the Appalachians in West Virginia and far western Maryland. The effects of Sandy are making its presence known along the mid-Atlantic currently. However, it is only the tip of the iceberg.
The size of Sandy is just unreal. From eastern Canada all the way do to just off the South Carolina Atlantic coast. This will be a long duration event for the eastern part of the US.
The wind field with Sandy is unreal as well. When you see tropical storm warnings along the North Carolina coast and down in Bermuda, it gives the impression of being a very large wind field as well, as it is.
The rain by early afternoon tomorrow will be covering much of Ohio. Note the dark reds down there in the Appalachians of West Virginia and far western Maryland. The one staggering thing with this storm at 2pm tomorrow, it is just the tip of the iceberg.
If we do see any snowflakes mixed in with the rain, it would more than likely occur overnight Monday night into the morning hours on Tuesday. No accumulations are expected for northern Ohio.
The rain facet of this storm will being a very slow decreasing trend in intensity. However, winds Monday night and Tuesday could easily top 60 mph.
