URGENT – IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 558
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
135 PM EST SUN NOV 23 2014

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

* TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF
SOUTHEAST ALABAMA
THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN FLORIDA PANHANDLE
SOUTHWEST GEORGIA
COASTAL WATERS

* EFFECTIVE THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 135 PM UNTIL
800 PM EST.

* PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE…
A COUPLE TORNADOES POSSIBLE
SCATTERED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 90 STATUTE
MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 50 MILES WEST SOUTHWEST OF
DOTHAN ALABAMA TO 25 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF MOULTRIE GEORGIA.
FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE ASSOCIATED WATCH
OUTLINE UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU8).

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

REMEMBER…A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

&&

DISCUSSION…THE WARM FRONT CONTINUES TO PROGRESS INLAND IN ADVANCE
OF A PRE-FRONTAL BAND OF STORMS ASSOCIATED WITH AN EJECTING MIDLEVEL
TROUGH. THOUGH LAPSE RATES ARE NOT PARTICULARLY STEEP…BOUNDARY
LAYER DEWPOINTS IN THE 68-70 F RANGE WILL SUPPORT SURFACE-BASED
BUOYANCY IN THE WARM SECTOR. VERTICAL SHEAR WILL BE STRONGEST ALONG
THE WARM FRONT…WHERE THE RISK FOR A COUPLE OF TORNADOES WILL BE
FOCUSED. OTHERWISE…AN ISOLATED TORNADO AND A FEW DAMAGING GUSTS
WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THE BAND OF STORMS FARTHER TO THE S INTO THE
FL PANHANDLE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON.

   OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...CONTINUE...WW 64...

DISCUSSION...AS AN UPPER TROUGH SHIFTS EAST-NORTHEASTWARD OVER EAST
TX AND THE ARKLATEX THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...A SURFACE LOW IS EXPECTED
TO GRADUALLY DEEPEN/MOVE NORTHEASTWARD ACROSS THE GULF COAST STATES.
AS THIS OCCURS...LOW-LEVEL SHEAR IS EXPECTED TO STRENGTHEN IN TANDEM
WITH A NORTHWARD-MOVING WARM FRONT AND AN INCREASINGLY MOISTURE-RICH
AIRMASS. SUPERCELLS CAPABLE OF TORNADOES WILL BECOME INCREASINGLY
LIKELY THROUGH THE EVENING...INCLUDING THE POTENTIAL FOR A STRONG

MESOSCALE PRECIPITATION DISCUSSION 0022
NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
759 AM EDT SUN APR 28 2013

AREAS AFFECTED……NORTHEASTERN AL/NORTHERN GA/EASTERN TN

CONCERNING…HEAVY RAINFALL…FLASH FLOODING POSSIBLE

VALID 281159Z – 281429Z

SUMMARY…STRONG CONVECTION MAINTAINED FROM OVERNIGHT ACTIVITY
WILL BRING A THREAT FOR FLASH FLOODING OVER AREAS OF NORTHERN
GEORGIA THIS MORNING.

DISCUSSION…A NOCTURNAL COMPLEX OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
APPEARS TO HAVE MAINTAINED ITS INTENSITY PER IR SATELLITE TRENDS
AND LIGHTNING DATA. THERE IS LITTLE REASON TO BELIEVE THIS AXIS OF
CONVECTION WILL WEAKEN DURING THE NEXT FEW HOURS AS THE
PRECIPITATION MOVES ACROSS AN AREA OF DIMINISHED 3-HOUR FFG
VALUES. IT APPEARS THIS THREAT SHOULD MOVE JUST TO THE NORTH OF
THE ATLANTA METRO AREA. THE 850-MB FLOW IS FORECAST TO PUMP SOME
OF THE HIGHER MOISTURE CONTENT OUT OF THE GULF OF MEXICO INTO THE
LOWER TENNESSEE VALLEY. ADDITIONALLY…MOST OF THE HIGH-RESOLUTION
GUIDANCE SUGGESTS THIS AREA WILL BE IMPACTED BY 1 TO 2 INCH
RAINFALL TOTALS IN 6 HOURS WITH LOCALIZED HIGHER AMOUNTS. THIS
SUPPORT INCLUDES THE 00Z SPC WRF/00Z HIGH-RES WRF-NMM ALONG WITH
DETERMINISTIC RUNS FROM THE 06Z NAM/GFS.

AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

&&

OTHER WATCH INFORMATION…CONTINUE…WW 141…WW 142…

DISCUSSION…LARGE-SCALE FORCING FOR UPWARD VERTICAL MOTION
DEVELOPING EASTWARD ACROSS THE REGION…ALONG AND JUST SOUTH OF A
SURFACE FRONTAL ZONE …IS EXPECTED TO CONTRIBUTE TO INCREASING
THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY DURING THE NEXT FEW HOURS. IN CONJUNCTION
WITH STRONG DEEP LAYER SHEAR…DISCRETE STORMS…INCLUDING ISOLATED
SUPERCELLS…MAY EVOLVE INTO AN EASTWARD PROGRESSING ORGANIZED
CLUSTER OF STORMS BY THIS EVENING. GIVEN SOMEWHAT MARGINAL BOUNDARY
LAYER MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY…THE RISK FOR TORNADOES…WHILE
PERHAPS NOT COMPLETELY NEGLIGIBLE DUE TO SIZABLE LOW-LEVEL
SHEAR…APPEARS RELATIVELY LOW…WITH LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WIND
GUSTS PRIMARY SEVERE RISKS.
